Feb 19, 2009 Bahia Pulp maps quilombolas communities
Aiming to promote the social development of the surrounding populations of its areas, Bahia Pulp accomplished a diagnosis of quilombolas communities in the region where the company exercises its forestry activities in the northern coast of Bahia. In all, eight communities were identified in the region: Catuzinho, Oiteiro Farm, Ranch Cangula, Buri, Gaioso, Jurema, Pé de Serra Mocambos and the Rio Azul, located in the municipalities of Alagoinhas, Araçás, Catu, Esplanada and Inhambupe.
"We have to know better our neighbors to identify opportunities for partnerships and strengthen ties with them," says Dailson Lima, Community Relations analyst. According to him, the diagnosis was made in partnership with students from UNEB (University of State of Bahia), Alagoinhas campus. The activities were accomplished by the students of Biology Tassia Sales dos Santos, Rafael dos Santos and Ana Paula Araújo.
Besides the diagnosis of quilombolas communities, Bahia Pulp is working on a similar project, also aimed to identify the profile and potential of all the 21 municipalities where the company exercises its forestry activities.
