June 04, 2009 Bahia Pulp restarts line 1 operations

Bahia Pulp restarted the operation of one of its production lines of specialty cellulose, halted in November last year. With the restart up of the line, which has capacity for 115 thousand tons, the company recovers its volume of annual production, estimated at up to 500 thousand tons. "The market is warming up again and this is the reason for the restart up of the line 1 activities”, says Sérgio Kilpp, Bahia Pulp’s director of Sales and Marketing.

"The increase of the purchase and improvement of the external market were crucial factors to that decision", said Kilpp. According to him, the scenario has changed. "Asia, our main market, is buying again and has made us restart our activities completely".

The company invested R$ 6 million in the reform and maintenance of the line and called 32 employees who had their work contracts suspended in January to assume their activities again. Moreover, other 25 people were hired since March.

During the stoppage of line 1, Bahia Pulp continued its activities with line 2, which began operations in June 2008, with capacity to produce up to 385 thousand tons of specialty cellulose per year.
