
A great programming geared to Bahia Pulp’s employees and the communities around marked the Environmental Week in the company. Between the days 1 and 5 June, various activities provided entertainment, information, integration and dissemination of good environmental practice for the day-to-day life of any person, inside and outside the company. The actions were both in the forestry and industrial areas.
In the mill, the most of the activities happened in the “green tent” with a sensory corridor, educational games with gifts for participants and exhibitions of ecologically correct products produced by artisans of the region. There was also lecture about distribution and waste treatment, visits by residents of a community near to the mill, theatrical interventions and raffle of gifts for participants.
Planting of native species
On Tuesday 2, was the planting of seedlings of native and ornamental species in a square of the city of Alagoinhas. The event was sponsored by Copener, and had the participation of authorities, including the Alagoinhas’ mayor Paulo Cezar and the Bahia Pulp’s forest manager Silas Zen. The planting of seedlings is part of the project to revitalize the square, which earn even playground, benches, lighting, floor, plants and flowers. According to Paulo Cezar, 16 other squares should also be revitalized.
Representantives of local association of residents and students of the municipal schools Marco Maciel and Irene Andrade also participated of the event. The student Deivisson Marcos said that he felt himself "honored to participate in the event sure to help the planet." Already the director Maria Célia Rocha, of Irene de Assis, addressed the importance of the event for the student's learning and to the awareness of preserving nature. "In this unit, we're working with the icon of the environment and the event provides additional information to the students ", she said.
