Bahia Pulp is supporting the actions of the Ecological Corridor Coconut Coast Institute (Incecc), planting 15 thousand seedlings of native trees. The planting, held by the Residents Forest Park Association, was made in an area of 3,600 hectares around the Camaçari Industrial Complex, in Bahia. Incecc aims to facilitate the north ecological corridor of Bahia, with 66 km long, conserving, restoring and linking areas of environmental preservation of the northern coast.
Residents of the region, responsible for planting the seedlings, are trained to perform the task, environmental education lectures and all benefits applicable to this activity. "With all the support offered, they act as forest guardians, as they acquire knowledge about the benefits of preserving green areas", said Eduardo Paiva, Safety, Health, Environment and Integrated Management manager of Bahia Pulp.
Incecc is a nonprofit association that integrates different environmental preservation areas, from the Forest Ring of the Camaçari Industrial Complex, including the Environmental Protection Areas (APAs) Joanes/Ipitanga, Capivara, Guarajuba, North Coast and Continental Shelf, to the remaining forests of Praia do Forte and Sauipe. Initially, the project involves the municipalities of Camaçari, Dias D'Avila, Lauro de Freitas and Mata de São João. In the first stage, which will be completed in 2015, the corridor will have approximately 60 hectares, adding approximately 30 hectares of remnant Atlantic Rainforest.
